It’s been a minute so I’m trying to remember now. But the highlights of being in Tokyo for me were The Studio Ghibli museum and Tokyo Disney. Unfortunately photos were not allowed at Studio Ghibli but for anyone traveling to Tokyo, I urge you to visit this place, even though getting tickets is notoriously a pain in the ass. I had to order them a month in advance, tell them what dates and time slots I preferred via email, wait for them to get back to me, and then go physically pick up the tickets in Shibuya. It was worth it. The animation and art was amazing, one of the highlights of my whole trip. Here’s a few that I took just outside the museum.
I went to Tokyo DisneySea because I heard that it was totally different than Disneyland. It was very different. The best thing about Tokyo Disney was that half of the guests dress up in costume. Almost no one does that at Disneyland in Anaheim. They had a variety of popcorn flavors, which was cool. By far the best ride is Journey to the Center of the Earth. The set design was some of the best I’ve seen at any Disney establishment, and the ride itself was really fun and thrilling. I also liked the Indiana Jones ride better because the Japanese villian’s voice is just way scarier and better than the American one. I didn’t take a bunch of pictures but here’s a few. Overall, it was totally fun and worth it but I still prefer the og Disneyland in my back yard.
I also went to a cat cafe, visited the Kappabashi district, Asakusa, went to Imperial Palace and went to some other spots just to take pictures. The thing about Tokyo is that there is so much to do and everything is so expensive, including getting around. I wish I had taken better advantage of the food options here because the remainder of my trip around Japan only got more difficult in terms of food. The best meal I had in all of Japan was this gluten free French toast at a place called Three Revival in Aoyama, which is close to Omotesando in Tokyo.
