Osaka
This was the low point of my whole trip. It’s not that Osaka itself is a bad city. I did stay in the “ghetto” part of town. Just that my life really was falling apart. It was a great city for me to feel like shit because there’s a lot of good places to drink. And coincidentally, this was the only place in Japan where I really bonded with anyone. I met a friend of a friend here who turned out to be a really cool person and a great listener. We went shopping and then we went to a karaoke bar, the first night I was there. The karaoke was a great outlet and there weren’t many guests so it was basically 4 people taking turns singing their hearts out.
The next day, because of my hangover and my personal problems, I had a hard time getting out of bed. My saving grace during this part of my trip was that I finally had a private room, not someone’s living room or a hostel or a room that I got to sleep in and then quickly leave the next day. I had days to sit in a bed by myself and cry. And that was exactly what I did. When I finally managed to leave my bed so that I would not starve, I probably ate some rice or something and then went to Spa World, which was walking distance from my place, and a world class spa to relax in. I went there and sunk deeper and deeper into relaxation. There must have been like 10 different pools, all genuinely unique from the others. My least favorite part was that there were TVs in a lot of the rooms.
I actually ended up extending my time in Osaka after I returned from Teshima, because I had to cancel the Bali portion of my trip. When I returned from Teshima, I met up again with my friend and we went to this mall of bars before returning to the karaoke bar. The highlight was this bar that was decorated with dolls, pastel balls, toys and fake flowers. It was great because I passed about 15 bars before deciding on that one and it was like walking into a dream. The owner was really friendly and cool and gave us a lot of advice about places to go.

We left and the karaoke bar was a little crowded so we only stuck around for a bit. Luckily by this time in my trip I had an umbrella, which was useful that night as I walked home.
